At present there are 96 Tree Growers Cooperative Societies (TGCS) having 15363 members protecting around 7992 hectares of forest land. Out of the 96 TGCS, 56 are registered under the cooperative society act
VIKSAT has been facilitating two of such projects in Khedbrahma block, Sabarkantha district along with activities under watershed plus project. In total the two watershed projects covers 1110.58ha.
The programme develops alternative financing solutions to institutionalize community-based public private partnership approaches for natural resource sector. In total 310 SHGs formed with total 3957 members.
VIKSAT is Regional Resource Agency since 1986 for Gujarat, Diu and Daman and sponsored by MoEF, GoI. The theme for 2009 was “Climate Change” and 482 proposals were sanctioned.
VIKSAT provided technical guidance to 4 districts i.e. Banaskantha, Dangs, Narmada and Sabarkantha for preparation of the district perspective and annual action plan through a participatory approach.
Promoting and strengthening Peoples' Institutions (P.Is) through interaction between Government and Non-Government Organisations and people by means of active participation of men and women from all sections of the community for equitable, gender, sensitive, sustainable development and management of natural resources.
